Functional Skills Tutor
1:1 Tuition – Hull & East Riding
Start Date: January 2026 or sooner
Salary: £26 – £33 per hour

GSL Education is seeking an enthusiastic and committed Functional Skills Tutor to deliver 1:1 tuition to children and young people across Hull and the East Riding. This is a rewarding opportunity to support learners who may be outside of mainstream education, require additional catch-up support, or need a personalised approach to learning.

About the Role:
As a Functional Skills Tutor, you will:

• Deliver 1:1 English and Maths Functional Skills sessions from Entry Level to Level 2.
• Plan tailored lessons based on the learner’s individual needs, abilities, and learning targets.
• Support learners with improving confidence, motivation, and engagement in core subjects.
• Use creative teaching strategies to help learners understand key concepts and make measurable progress.
• Work with learners who may present with SEND, SEMH needs, or barriers to learning.
• Provide regular progress updates and maintain accurate session records.
• Work in a range of community locations, education settings, or in the learner’s home.

What We Are Looking For:

• A qualified teacher, instructor, tutor, or FE specialist with strong knowledge of Functional Skills English and/or Maths.
• Experience delivering personalised learning or working on a 1:1 basis.
• Understanding of SEND and/or SEMH support strategies is highly desirable.
• A patient, adaptable and supportive approach to engaging learners.
• Strong communication and organisational skills.
• A valid Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply).
